Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Industries Minister Subhash Desai had taken hard efforts to ensure the success of the event and also gathering maximum benefits from it.
Make in India week in Maharashtra was all investment to ‘enable & empower’ the nation’s strength.
- Maharashtra signed a total of 2,594 MoUs worth Rs 7.94 lakh crore in diverse sectors, including manufacturing, agro-industry, textile, energy, infrastructure retail, tourism, real estate, IT parks, skill development, medical and MSMS
- The big corporates who have signed on are Mahindra & Mahindra (Rs 8,000 crore), Mercedes (Rs 1,200 crore), Ascendas (Rs 4,571 crore), Raymond (Rs 1,400 crore) and Sterlite (Rs 60,000 crore). The list also includes Pepsico and Coca Cola.
- It was announced that highway projects have gone up to 22000 km from 7000 km.
- The Govt also announced that Rs 3 lakh crore will be spent on ports and highways and another Rs 18,000 crore on Railways.
- Assurances were also given that projects will not be delayed due to environment clearances.
- As part of the ‘Make In India Week’, the State Government inked 2,594 MoUs with investment intentions of Rs 7.94 lakh crore which could possibly generate employment for over 30 lakh people.
- Out of the 2,594 MoUs, 2,097 MoUs were signed with MSME & large industries and 20 in Skill Development.
- The setting up of an International Financial Services Centre at the same venue where the Make in India Centre has been put up.
- He also reiterated his Government’s commitment towards ‘Ease of Doing Business’ and the number of reforms initiated since the new Government took over.
- Using the forum of the captains of the Industry, the industries department unveiled 4 new policies – Electronics & Fab, Retail, Single Window, and a policy for SC/ST entrepreneurs – which further reiterated the commitment of the Government to be industry-friendly.
- Investment of Rs 1.50 lakh crore in the backward regions of Vidarbha and Marathwada, which has been the worst affected by the drought and agrarian crises.
- While Konkan region (including the Mumbai Metropolitan Region) will see an investment of Rs 3.50 lakh crore, Khandesh (North Maharashtra) will see Rs 25,000 crore and Pune (Western Maharashtra) will see Rs 50,000 crore.
- The Directorate of Industries also launched its website.
- The transport department and Maharashtra Maritime Board also released a new port policy.
- The stakeholders from electronics, retail, ports sector and Dalit Chamber of Commerce and Industries participated in the release of the policies and applauded the measures announced.
The Make in India Week held at the MMRDA grounds in Bandra-Kurla Complex also saw the Maharashtra government aggressively promoting the state.
This is not the first time when such an event was organised in the country. Many promises have been made each time. But it would be really interesting to watch how prominently the efforts of Modi at the Central level and Fadnavis at the state would be taken ahead to the next level.
Many other states like Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Delhi also benefitted.
