2 industrial parks likely to come up in Andhra Pradesh by 2018

Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) has approved the development of two industrial development projects in Andhra Pradesh under the ‘Modified Industrial Infrastructure Upgradation Scheme’ (MIIUS), informed Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in a written reply to a question put up in Rajya Sabha on August 9.

The two projects will focus on the development of industrial clusters at Hindupur and Bobbili in the districts of Ananatapur and Vizianagaram respectively.

The minister informed that the objective of these projects is to provide quality and reliable infrastructure to industrial units located in these clusters.

Specifically these projects aim to provide road network, drainage, power and water supply networks and some other common services like  health centres, canteens, crèches, dormitories, parking areas, etc, she added.

Sitharaman also informed that the two projects are likely to be functional by 31st March, 2018.

These projects have employment potential of about 5500 persons (direct) and 8500 persons (indirect), the Minister emphasised.

The Industrial Infrastructure Upgradation Scheme (IIUS) was launched in 2003 as a Central Sector Scheme to enhance competitiveness of industry by providing quality infrastructure through a public private partnership in selected functional clusters with central assistance upto 75 per cent of the project cost subject to a ceiling of Rs 5 crore. The Scheme was recast in February, 2009 based on the recommendation of an independent evaluation. Central assistance was retained up to 75 per cent and assistance up to 90 per cent of the project cost introduced for NER/Hill States with a maximum ceiling of Rs 60 crore (with 15 per cent minimum industry contribution and 5 per cent in case of NER/Hill States).
