Alibaba to hand-hold Indian SMEs for global market expansion

Global wholesale trading platform Alibaba is willing to hand-hold small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Coimbatore city of India to pave an accelerated global outreach for these businesses by providing expansion assistance.

The pitch was put forth by Alibaba.com’s Global Supplier Department Head Jack Zhang while addressing a workshop for re-sellers of textiles products, recently in Coimbatore. Zhang ascertained the crucial role that SMEs play in an economy. He said small businesses were key source of trade and innovation globally.

The trading and e-Commerce giant is committed to supporting SMEs by fully unleashing their potential by leveraging the power of technology and online commerce, he said.

“Through our network of partners and local workshops, we hope to help SMEs expand their businesses globally at a faster pace,” Zhang said.

The workshop was aimed at empowering SMEs to further expand their business and increase their presence in the global markets and nearly 200 re-sellers from the textile market marked their presence.

The workshop, titled ‘Infinity–Grow your Business’, focused on educating the exporters and traders on various government policies related to exports and innovation in the SME sector through sessions with industry captains.

The press release quoted the local chapter head of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Vanitha Mohan, saying that there is a huge potential in the small business industry in India and their contribution to Indian economy is critical.

Rising internet penetration and greater uptake for digital are transforming the ways SMBs operate in India today and it’s heartening to see companies like Alibaba.com supporting them to expand their business globally, she added.
