Assam Industries & Commerce Minister urges MSME units to lay stress on quality products

Assam Industries & Commerce Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary urged all MSME units to put thrust on producing quality products.

“Quality products alone will help MSME units to survive severe competition from global companies,” the Minister said while addressing a national workshop on ‘Lean Manufacturing’ organised by FINER in association with the MSME-Development Institute here.

Waste management is a very crucial matter following rising concerns of global warming and climate change, he said. “We often talk about industrial growth and its benefits to the state’s economy, employment generation and its growth and development. However, we tend to forget a vital point, which is waste management”, he said.

All industries, including MSMEs must address this for betterment of the standard of living and lean manufacturing is an initiative to address this issue, the minister said. “It is a holistic approach to reduce wastes, increase production and improve the quality of products, which are essential for competing in national and international markets”, Patowary said.

A proposal to set up a tool room at a cost of Rs 12.50 crore in Assam for skill training to the youth will soon be sent to the Union MSME Ministry, the minister added.
