Industry hails Modi’s vision for MSME sector, Quality has to be maintained

Welcoming the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, particularly the Zero Defect Zero Effect scheme which was highlighted by Modi at Punjab Agricultural University, the local industry maintains that for further growth in this competitive world, quality has to be maintained at any cost. At the same time, many of them condemned the state government for not providing benefits to the MSME sector at its own level. They said “bureaucracy” rules Punjab and it was not letting the industry grow.

The state secretary of the Punjab Pradesh Beopar Mandal, Mohinder Aggarwal, said Modi was undoubtedly right in highlighting the importance of quality management. “Unless and until we focus on quality management, we cannot compete with multinationals at the global level,” he added. At the same time, Aggarwal said it was unfortunate that just two persons were chosen from Punjab for the awards.

“It is due to poor facilities provided to the MSME sector and tedious government procedures that the state industry is not growing at a fast pace. Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal claim that power was cheaper for industry in Punjab than other states is absolutely wrong. We are paying huge amounts to get power because as all four thermal plants of the state are non-functional and power is being purchased from private companies,” said Aggarwal.

A former chairman of the Ludhiana Improvement Trust and representative of the Yarn and Spinners’ Association here, Madan Mohan Vyas, said the PM’s vision was encouraging. Now, it is the duty of countrymen to implement it. “We cannot depend entirely on the government machinery. We need to make best efforts from our side also. There is a need to ignite the fire. Skill is there, we need to use it properly,” said Vyas.

The President of the Federation of Industrial and Commercial Organisations (FICO), Gurmeet Singh Kular, said to progress, we need to bring the latest technology in every field. How can we proceed without technology upgrade? he asked. At the same time, he said the state government had failed to rope in big corporate houses through which employment could be generated. “The PM focused on quality, which is the key factor. We have to focus on bringing new innovations to compete with countries like China,” said Kular.
