Japanese firm Spiral Ventures eyes to invest more in India

Japanese firm, Spiral Ventures targets to invest almost half of the latest South Asia and Southeast Asia-focused fund in India.

According to a report by DEALSTREETASIA, company’s partner Yasuhiro Seo said that the venture capital is aiming to hit the first close of this fund at $10 to $20 million next month.
Formerly known as IMJ Investment Partners, the firm reached out to the Indian investors to participate on the on-going fund-raise and have even received positive feedback from them.

“It is a very positive time to enter into the Indian market. I see strong businesses and the valuations are very realistic, so now is the best time to invest in India,” said Seo.

The investment firm is also keen to invest in tech-enabled start-ups like healthcare, fin-tech and online and offline platform.

“For India, we are looking to invest $100,000 – $300,000 at the first stage which would be feasible. We could follow up with a series A or B stages, but for new investments, we want to stick to seed,” Seo added.

Spiral Ventures operates both in Asia and Japan. The former entity “IMJ Investment Partners” was established in 2012 by IMJ Corporation (“IMJ”), a major digital marketing company, as an independent venture capital subsidiary in Japan. After IMJ was acquired by Culture Convenience Club (“CCC”) in 2013, the firm continued their investment activities independently, and eventually relocated our office to Singapore to change our strategy and start a venture capital fund for the Southeast Asia market.
