The power major has placed an order for worth Rs 5.34 crores of 23,000 sleeveless jackets for its employees.
The jackets would be made out of khadi katia silk fabric with a cotton lining with designer buttons. “This order will generate 20,000 extra man hours,” said VK Saxena, Chairman, KVIC. The order will be executed in 2 months.
In a related development, Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai, has for the first time decided to use Khadi products in the convocation ceremony and placed an order for the supply of 3,500 uttarias or angavastrams for use by students at the time of Institute’s convocation. They will be made of honey comb towel cotton khadi.
“The use of Khadi by IIT Bombay is a significant step, as it will help students to get a feel of National fabric,” Saxena added.
