#MonsoonSession: PM kicks-off session with “growing stronger together” spirit of GST

Carry your umbrellas as the Monsoon Session of Parliament is going to rain bills. A total of 16 new bills will be introduced in both the houses of Parliament for consideration and passage. Apart from these, of the 21 bills pending in Lok Sabha and 42 in Rajya Sabha, many could be taken up and considered during the session.

Among the 16 new bills that are to be introduced in this session are the Consumer Protection Bill and two bills to implement the GST in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Monsoon Session of Parliament kicked off on July 17 with opening remarks from Prime Minister Narendra Modi who hoped the “growing stronger together” spirit of GST will bring enthusiasm to Parliament proceedings and that political parties will engage in high standard of debate and provide value addition during the Monsoon session.

“Today the Monsoon session begins. Like the monsoon brings hope, this session also brings same spirit of hope. After the summer, the rains fill the soil with pleasant smell. The same way, due to the good rains of the GST, the whole session will be full of enthusiasm,” said the PM.

It is noteworthy that this session gets an opportunity to elect a new President and Vice-President for the nation, and mark the 75th Anniversary of the Quit India Movement on August 9 as well as the 70th Independence Day.

The session comes at the trail of GST-rollout which may hail the session with opposition storming against heated issues such as the new tax regime and its arguable impacts/adverse effects. Apart from this, the opposition is also prepared to corner the government over issues like lynching incidents and vigilantism over cow, the Kashmir situation and the border stand-off with China.
