MSMEs reported strong hiring sentiments in the coming six months | MSME Hiring Sentiment Survey

The employers of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) across Telangana have reported strong hiring sentiments in the coming six months, according to MSME Hiring Sentiment Survey, conducted in April 2016 by TMI Group, a Hyderabad-based human resources services company.

Explaining the purpose of the survey, conducted in 200 MSMEs across the State, T. Muralidharan, Chairman and Managing Director of TMI Group said, “Quarter-on-quarter surveys are conducted to gauge the hiring sentiments of large corporates. The MSME segment is the largest hirer in the country and this report focuses on understanding the hiring intentions of the MSME sector across India”.

As per the survey, maximum hiring would happen at the entry and middle level. Both these put together would amount to 77 per cent of the recruitment in the MSME segment.

While 40 per cent of the openings are entry-level positions, another 37 per cent are mid-level positions and 18 per cent are senior-level positions. Only 5 per cent are top management roles.

Interestingly, the survey report stated that 67 per cent of the MSMEs would hire a Diploma holder for a technical position and not an engineer.

Over one-third of the respondents had said that sales and marketing were the most difficult positions to fill.

Accounts professionals and customer care executives ranked second and third.

Speaking about the findings of the survey, Srividya Viswanathan, Chief Executive Officer of JobsDialog, a recruitment service for MSMEs by the TMI Group said, “the MSME sector is opening up enormous job opportunities. Freshers and professionals with three to seven years of experience must be ready to grab such opportunities. Diploma holders especially have promising prospects in the sector”.

At 43.1 per cent, internal referrals are the most effective method of hiring while 29.9 per cent of the respondents said that newspaper advertisements and classifieds to be their most effective hiring method. Recruitment consultants, job boards, natural walk-ins to the office and company website/social media scored very low.
