Park for Chinese SMEs likely in Medak

Hunan province has evinced interest in setting up a park for Small and Medium Enterprises, on 2,500-3,000 acres, in Telangana.

The park will locate SMEs across various sectors and providing the backdrop for the proposal is Telangana’s efforts to woo investments from China, which included Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s visit to that country in September last year.

The intent was conveyed by a high level delegation, led by Deputy Director in the province’s Department of Commerce Zhou Yue, to senior officials of the State’s Industries and Commerce department on Saturday. The meeting took place at the stall put up by Telangana at the ‘Make in India’ programme in Mumbai.

Industries and Commerce Secretary Arvind Kumar suggested that this can be done in NIMZ (National Investment Manufacturing Zone), Medak.

During a visit of a trade mission from Hunan to Hyderabad a couple of months ago, Arvind Kumar said the State government was keen on having integrated industrial parks for Chinese SMEs, beginning with one near Hyderabad in collaboration with the province. Besides space for the units and common facilities such as those for research and testing, the park would have residential accommodation and Chinese restaurants too.

“The idea is to create a mini-China, making the investors feel at home and provide infrastructure of standards available in their country,” he said.

Land availability is not expected to be a constraint given that the State boasts of a 1.50 lakh acres of land bank for industrial use. The suggestion to establish the park in Medak also falls in line with the emphasis on the government to spread industrial growth beyond Hyderabad. An official release on the meeting in Mumbai said among those part of the Hunan delegation were Director (Industrial Promotion) Zeng Zi Li, Deputy Director (High Tech Zone) Chen Daging and Deputy Director (Industrial Development Zone) James Wu. Telangana’s Commissioner of Industries Manicka Raj was present.
