Data Group takes inspiration from Digital India, offers free domain names in Indian languages

Indian startup company, Data Group on September 15 launched a domain booking service with “.Bharat”. The domain is free as are extensions like .com, .net and .in but the big difference will be the Devanagri script. According to agency inputs, Ajay Data, the Founder and CEO of the Data Group said that the users can book their domain in six different Indian scripts with .bharat extension at free of charge from the website, “godil.in”. This is all being done on the behalf of the Hindi Diwas being celebrated throughout the country.

Data Group is the first known company to do something of this nature. While Data Group allows its users to register on the website for free, the creation of e-mail ids has been priced at the range of Rs 100 per month to Rs 1,500 per year. The company said that their objective was to enable technology promoting content in local languages as envisaged by the Indian government under the Digital India programme.

Data said that the launching of such new services would help the non-English speaking population of the country. The email IDs created in the Indian scripts can also be linked to their Gmail IDs. Xgen Plus of the Data Group is to provide the email service. Data also stated that the company had received interests from German and Russian entities after pioneering in the email service in Indian scripts
