Kalraj Mishra bats for acceleration to Khadi industry

Union MSME Minister Kalraj Mishra has expressed the willingness for Khadi products to be exempt from the new tax regime that has come into effect with the roll-out of Goods and Services Tax (GST) on July 1.

The Union Minister was addressing a meeting with Khadi institution in the august presence of Ministers of State (MoS) Giriraj Singh and Haribhai P Chaudhary, Secretary Arun Kumar Panda, and KVIC Chairman V K Saxena, in New Delhi.

Mishra informed the GST Council has started analysing the pros and cons of GST on various products and their impact on the Khadi industry and associated weavers and spinners.

“Even the Finance Minister had assured me to give a GST exemption for financial development of otherwise economically backward lot of weavers and spinners,” Mishra said.

Further stressing on the need to promote Khadi as a global brand, he said, “To make Khadi a global brand, we should host Khadi exhibitions at different Embassies.”

The Minister urged the gathering to make use of unused assets of Khadi, as much as possible.
