Technology and Quality Up-gradation | Scheme to promote MSMEs for energy efficient technology

With reports that seventy per cent of the total industrial pollution load of India is attributed to the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), the government said it has launched the schemes to promote energy conservation and provide necessary framework for improving energy efficiency particularly in energy intensive industries.

So far, MSMEs are not notified as Designated Consumers, and are not covered under the regulatory provisions of the Energy Conservation Act, 2001. Minister of State for MSME Giriraj Singh said.

The Ministry is however encouraging and promoting MSMEs to go for energy efficient technology.

For this purpose, it had a scheme called “Technology and Quality Up-gradation”.

Under this scheme, MSMEs are assisted with a subsidy of up to 25% of the project cost subject to maximum of Rs. 10.00 lakhs. The Minister of State for MSMEs Giriraj Singh said.

Regarding reports that MSMEs are major industrial pollutant, Singh said, the data of such industries is not maintained centrally in this MSME Ministry.
