GirirajStung by cheap imports of Chinese toys, the government has come out with plans to promote and develop toys in the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises in the country.

The MSME Ministry has already come out with various schemes and programmes in designing, market assistance, technology up gradation, credit facilitation and cluster and infrastructure development.

Minister of State for MSME, Giriraj Singh informed Lok Sabha that government has asked toy industry units and toy industry associations to submit proposals to the ministry for taking toy industry development forward.

The government will follow strict norms so that consumers get ISI certified products and check import of sub-standard products.

India produced Rs 10,800 crore worth of toys in 2014-15, of which Rs 9200 crore of toys were sold in the domestic market.  India imported Rs 1,786 crore worth of toys in 2014-15 as against Rs 1561 crore worth of toys in the previous year. India produced Rs 9000 crore of toys in 2013-14 of which Rs 7,500 crore were sold in the domestic market.
