An electronics manufacturing cluster on a 210-acre plot is coming up in Noida after the Development Systems Corporation Ltd. and Taiwan Electrical and Electronics Manufacturers Association signed a Moue.
In the first phase, Taiwanese units will invest Rs 500 crore and this will generate employment of 20,000 to 30,000 persons and direct or indirect employment generation will be one lakh.
According to UP Chief Secretary Alok Ranjan the state electronic and information technology policy 2012 provides incentives and single window clearances for projects.
He said new policy was attracting the electronics and IT industry to the state.
He said Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has been personally taking interest to attract industry to the state, especially in the Electronics and IT sector, and has promised better infrastructure and incentives.
District Industry Center records show that in four months of current financial year 2015-16 from April to July-end 696 new industrial units were issued small scale industries (SSI) unit registration in the area.
The Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers’ Association (TEEMA) will invest $200 million in electronic manufacturing sector in Greater Noida.
A seven-member delegation of the association led by TEEMA President Francis Tsai met the Uttar Pradesh chief secretary and expressed their desire to invest in the state.
Other members of the delegation John Ko, John Lin, Dingo Ku, Gary Liu, GJ Lee and Sanjay Sony, representing Taiwanese giants like D-Link, CTCI Corp, Winston Corp, told state officials they were influenced by the incentives being offered by the Uttar Pradesh government and would like to avail of the opportunity.
Assuring his government’s full support in project implementation of Taiwanese firms, Ranjan told the delegation that incentives were available under the state’s infrastructure and industrial investment policy and electronic manufacturing policy of the state and it shall be extended to them.
A Dutch telecom company is also planning to invest in Greater Noida. Scarlet, an internet service and telephony provider, is scouting for 200 acres of land to set up an electronic product manufacturing unit in the city.
The company has operations in Belgium as well.
The state government is likely to make an initial offer to the company for setting up its plant in Greater Noida’s electronic manufacturing cluster, sources said.
“While the Dutch group requires 200 acres, several other firms have also sent their delegation to conduct site visits,” an official said, adding, “Currently there is no electronic chip manufacturing or semiconductor wafer fabrication plant (commonly called FAB units) in India and 100% of the domestic electronics requirement is met through imports.”
The UP government had earlier identified Greater Noida and YEIDA areas for setting up two EMCs. Both the development authorities then identified land lots of 100 acre each. While the Greater Noida hub will be located along a 130 mt-wide arterial road, the hub in YEIDA area is proposed to be located along the Yamuna Expressway. The layout plan of the land for both the areas is currently pending with the state government for approval.
“The clusters will be a consortium of companies, which will encourage manufacturing of electronic products. We are also earmarking land for auxiliary services that will be required for the clusters,” the official told SME News.
