In today’s world we have gone digital where our social boundaries have blurred. It has become difficult for us to identify that who is living in our neighbourhood. Hence in the time of any emergency we are not able to count on our neighbours.
This evolving gap among the neighbours gave IIT Madras Alumnus, Prashant Piiti an idea to launch Neargroup app India’s first social networking app for neighbourhood communications.
Launched in October 2015, NearGroup currently have 36K registered users. The app is available both on Android and IOS. It only allows verified users to be a part of a group of a locality. Currently, it is available only for Delhi and NCR residents.
Pitti told SMEpost,“Using NearGroup, residents are helping each other, pursuing hobbies, carpooling, exercising & hanging out. For Example, 135 neighbours in Noida got-together and became Santa for Street-Kids last Christmas,”
NearGroup, is aiming to connect like-minded neighbours for networking opportunities, resolve concerns, build a better neighbourhood to ultimately make the country an even better place to live in.
They added a special feature in their app called ‘Panic Button’ to be used in the case of emergency.
“Besides law-&-order, your neighbours can help you quickly in emergency. Just press PANIC-BUTTON on NearGroup App.. your message, number and last-GPS location will go as SMS to all your neighbours whether you have their number stored or not ”told Pitti.
Besides the Panic Button feature NearGroup also has a special real time group chat facility that is enabling people to share ideas on a common topic.
The team of nine behind Neargroup is working rigorously to expand the brand to other locations.
On briefing about his expansion plans, Piiti told SMEpost that, “Currently 36,000 Delhi NCR Neighbours are using NearGroup. We wish to expand this number to 5 Lac users in NCR in next 3 months and afterwards we are heading to expand it in other metro cities.”
