India’s online education platform Unacademy has raised $11 million in a series B round led by Sequoia Capital India and SAIF Partners. Existing investors- Nexus Venture Partners and Blume Ventures also participated in this round.
The company’s statement said that the start-up will utilise the funds to enhance its product and technology, and to scale to other categories including personality development, new languages and job interviews. The capital raised will also be used for producing its own content.
Gaurav Munjal, CEO, Unacademy said that the company is doing well in test preparation, it needs money to develop the other categories as well. “With the backing of Sequoia and SAIF, we are poised to gain momentum and create the first global education technology product out of India,” he added.
Founded by Sachin Gupta, Gaurav Munjal in 2010, the company claims that in a span of 6 months, over 300,000 students have benefited from over 2,400 online lessons and specialised courses on cracking various competitive examinations, on our platform.
In May 2016, Unacademy has raised $500 thousand in a funding led by Blume Ventures. And in August the same year, the company has raised $1 million from Tracxn, Kunal Shah, Vijay Shekhar Sharma, Binny Bansal, Sachin Bansal, Vikas Malpani, Sumit Jain, Phanindra Sama, Aprameya Radhakrishna, Sujeet Kumar, Ashish Tulsian, Sandeep Tandon, Waterbridge Ventures, Blume Ventures.
In January 2017, the company has raised $4.5 million in series A funding led by Nexus Venture Partners and Blume Ventures.
