MSMEs to expand their horizonsA two-day national vendor development programme and business-to-business meet, “Laghu Udyog Expo-2017”, is being organised by the public sector Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) along with the Department of Industries and Commerce and the MSME Development Institute, Thrissur.

Industries Minister A.C. Moideen inaugurated the expo, which is aimed at bringing to limelight domestic MSMEs capable of delivering high quality products at competitive cost and time, at Marine Drive on May 15.

Expected to be a major platform for MSMEs, especially those based in Kerala, the expo has many Central and State PSUs and banks taking part. Moideen said the event would help MSMEs find opportunities to identify potential product development and indigenisation of marketing sources.

MSMEs are showcasing their products and services besides interacting with prospective clients for marketing their goods.

The expo is spread over some 80 stalls, while 10 counters/rooms have been readied for business-to-business meet. Madhu S Nair, Chairman and Managing Director of the yard, said there would be seminars, presentations by MSMEs, industries and experts over the two days.

“It is not just an exhibition, but a network of MSMEs with PSUs and banks,” Nair said.

CSL, the largest public sector shipyard in India in terms of dock capacity, is the force behind the expo. Catering to clients in the defence commercial sectors, the yard has built and delivered vessels across classifications and is now building India’s first indigenous aircraft carrier, INS Vikrant.
