The Union Minister said that MSME Ministry will work towards the development of small and sick units of the region with full throttle by way of cluster development. In this, all village industries including Khadi, jute, etc. will be given priority to benefit self-help groups, artisans and weavers along with industry committees.

It is worth noting that despite immense opportunities made available to small industries in eastern Uttar Pradesh, the condition of small industries is poor. To overcome this, the government has taken up the initiative to rejuvenate the region.

Mishra said that the MSME Ministry will work towards creating classified clusters, as well as restore traditional clustes such as Khadi.

3 types of clusters

Mishra informed that three categories of clusters will be developed – Heritage, Major and Mini.

Heritage will be built for 1000 to 2500 people for which the department will be earmarked a budget of Rs 800 crore. Major cluster will be developed for 800 to 1000 people with a budget of around Rs 3.5 crore. While the mini cluster will have a capacity of 50 to 500 people for which a fund of Rs 1.5 crore will be allocated.

He said that these cluster will be based on Khadi, pottery, traditional weavers, leather, etc. Along with this the saree industry of Benares will be leveraged with new technology.
The Minister said also informed that the registration system will be made easy through single window system.

Speaking on the recent GST-rollout, the Minister termed GST as new life for small businessmen. Mishra said that the new tax system will increase the pace of development of MSME. He informed that earlier only 8 lakh people used to pay taxes, but ever since the GST hustle, this number has touched crores.
