MSME Ministry’s digital affair blossoms; To launch ICT scheme on Int’l MSME DayDriving the Digital India dream is at the heartland of MSME Ministry. The ministry is lately in the process of implementing a “Digital MSME” Scheme for the promotion of Information & Communication Technology (ICT) in MSME Sector, and to motivate MSMEs to adopt ICT tools and applications in their business processes.

Furthering the digital thrust to the sector, MSME Ministry is officially launching the scheme on the occasion of International Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Day (June 27) in New Delhi. The event will include presentation of National Awards to MSMEs and an exchange of Memorandum of Understanding with SAP India, Intel and HMT.

The ministry has taken various initiatives to get the MSME sector on-board the digital ride. Let’s peep back to the past, reflecting digital personality of the MSME Ministry:

Go online and register your enterprise

One can register an enterprise online for Udyog Aadhar using self certification and Aadhar number within 5 minutes. The ministry has shortened the process to only 14 to 15 questions.  One can easily give answers and get registered with the ministry. Earlier, average registration was 3 lakh in a year but now 11 lakh plus people are registering. So if there is facility and ease of process then definitely people will try to register their businesses.

Twitterati MSME Ministry

The ministry takes its social media seriously. Frequent twitter Q&As and Facebook Lives are hosted by the ministry to reach out to the industry at mass.

It’s an app-age!

The ministry in April launched its MyMSME mobile application and MSE Facilitation Council Web Portal. MyMSME is for all Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME) in India and other stakeholders as a source of all information related to MSME’s policies, registration, services, schemes, etc. On the other hand, the MSE Facilitaion Council was setup under the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development (MSMED) Act 2006. It functions as a state-level council and provides remedial measure for the recovery of delayed payments by medium, large industries, public sector undertakings, and state and central government undertakings.

The MSME sector is the backbone of the Indian Economy and one of the prime drivers of employment. Despite its apparent success in the last couple of years, Indian MSME sector is facing many challenges. Apart from the traditional problems, they are also increasingly exposed to international competition. Therefore, MSMEs in India – as everywhere else – need to improve their competitiveness by taking a variety of measures. The use of digital initiatives is one of the important measures, which can greatly help MSMEs in almost every facet of their business.
