Sitharaman urges MPs to set-up start-up incubators under MPLADS FundGovernment’s ambitious Startup India initiative seems to be at the heartland of Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. The Union Minister has been continuously striving for the promotion and utilization of the scheme to build a strong start-up environment in the nation. Sitharaman, in fact, recently offered a contribution of Rs 1.18 crore from her Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) fund to a start-up incubation centre being set-up in Mangaluru.

Having set an encouraging example, the Commerce & Industry Minister has now written a letter to all Members of Parliament (MPs), urging them to consider replicating the act for setting up co-working spaces/incubators for start-ups in their respective constituencies by putting the MP fund in use.

Sitharaman said this step will promote the start-up ecosystem in country and help start-ups in their constituency make rapid strides towards establishing themselves. This will also generate employment.

She said that Startup India initiative aims to enable and empower the entrepreneurship ecosystem in the country and encourage start-ups to dwell through innovations and designs. The government has been making all-out efforts towards realising the vision of Startup India Mission, she penned in the letter.

The Minister said that the government has been catching up with the requirements of start-ups, and one of the crucial aspects that come up front is a need to provide class-infrastructure. Sitharam concerns that start-ups may not have enough funds to own a workplace of their own, and thus urged MPs to come forward to help these emerging entrepreneurs of tomorrow translate their ideas into a success story.
