ScootyMumbai-headquartered discovery and delivery service provider Scootsy has raised a $3.6 Mn Pre-Series A round led by Agnus Capital and Khattar Holdings. AntFarm, Scootsy’s incubator, also participated in this investment round.

Founded in July 2015 by Rishi Khiani,  Sandeep Das, Sanjay Ghai and Sunil Saraf, Scootsy is a one-stop pan-city delivery platform, which enables on-demand gratification of consumer needs.

As per a company statement, Scootsy works with a combination of leading and small-scale businesses across food, sweets and bakes, books, beauty products, fashion and gifts to provide home delivery for users.

It claims to have a customer base of over 200K, and an average order size of INR 900. The platform has exclusive brands such as Hamleys, ROYCE’, The Bombay Canteen, The Table, Nicobar, Condé Nast magazines, and Jean-Claude Biguine.

The Scootsy platform is accessible on iOS and Android, the Scootsy website, and a dedicated call centre. The platform also functions as a marketplace that allows customers to discover new and trending products. Scootsy even facilitates late night cravings by delivering till 3 am.

With the new round of funding, Scootsy plans to work on strengthening logistics, technologies, and its delivery platform. With this funding, the company will also add Scootsy Express, a service that will deliver food to corporate offices across the city.

Apart from this, the company will also launch Scootsy Pop-Up, a kitchen and distribution platform that will be available to brands from across the country.

As per Data Labs, the concept of hyperlocal in business emerged around 2010 when startups like Zomato, Ola, Meru realised the potential of on-demand service. In May 2016, Chandigarh-based on-demand auto rickshaw aggregator Jugnoo restarted its hyperlocal delivery service ‘Fatafat.’ In December 2016, Gurugram-based on demand hyperlocal delivery services startup, Shadowfax raised $10 Mn (INR 67 Cr) as part of its Series B funding. Existing investor Eight Roads Ventures, the investment arm of Fidelity International, participated in the round.

Earlier this month, Google launched a new hyperlocal services app in India – Areo. The Areo app will deliver food and home services for residents in Bengaluru and Mumbai. Major competitors in hyperlocal delivery include Runnr, Shadowfax among others.
