With big Indian companies showing interest in manufacturing defence equipments, the Small and Medium scale Enterprises (SMEs) have a big opportunity to set up ancillary units. Reliance has shown interest in setting up a defence equipment park in Mihan and this is a golden opportunity for local companies.
Keeping this fact in mind, Vidarbha Industries Association (VIA) and Defence Innovators & Industry Association (DIIA) has organized a seminar. The organizers feel that this was not only an opportunity for local companies to explore the sector but they would also get a chance to meet top officials of major companies. Top guns of public sector defence equipment manufacturers as well as defence officials have also been invited to the seminar.
The objective of the seminar is to communicate to the SMEs in the region, the immense potential emerging not only in the defence sector but also in the field of IT, engineering, electronics, precision components, sheet metals, castings, forging, plastics, etc.
The stress of the seminar is on exposure to Defence Procurement Policy (DPP) and recent changes in law allowing private sector participation in defence sector. Successful entrepreneurs in this sector are attending the seminar and will guide the participants.
In the daylong seminar, four sessions will be on revenue procurement — opportunities for SMEs, opportunities with Defence Public Sector Units (DPSUs), opportunity as ancillary to organized sector in defence and link up between research institutes & SMEs.
