The Ministry of Skill Development And Entrepreneurship has made a major announcement that the government is going to set up India International Skill Centers across the country to support youth getting foreign placement.
While Skill India celebrates its anniversary with huge fanfare and more than 50,000 visitors witnessing the India Skills Competition 2016 in the capital, the Union government is keen to bridge the global shortage of labour force in the coming years by reaping the demographic dividend of young Indian labour force.
Aiming at providing skill trainings and certification benchmarked to International Standards, Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship under the “Skill India” Mission is setting up India International Skill Centre (IISC).
This is an important step towards the realisation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of transforming India into the skill capital of the world. These centers are envisaged to provide complete training and certification programme to youth intending to migrate overseas for work.
Training on domain skill, language skill, international country specific orientation skill, and digital literacy modules will be given. Fifty centers are slated to be open under this initiative in this year. In the initial phase the focus will be on few particular sectors. Domestic workers, retail, tourism and hospitality, capital goods, healthcare, construction, automotive and security will be the sectors.
On the launch of these centers, the MoS (Independent Charge) of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Rajiv Pratap Rudy said, “In a phased manner we will launch 50 India International Skill Centers in the country, out of which 15 centers are being introduced today in the States of Uttar Pradesh (6), Kerala (2) and one each in Jharkhand, Bihar, Andhra Pradhesh/Telangana, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Punjab and Rajasthan.”
The proposed India International Skill Centers would be set up through the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and shall be implementing the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) and Pravasi Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PKVY) to youth seeking global mobility for jobs.
The Ministry has also sought support from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to provide support for Pre-Departure Orientation Training, which includes language and soft skills training modules. “Through this initiative, our government intends to create a cadre of highly skilled individuals who are recognized and respected in different parts of the world and make India’s Flag fly high,” Rudy further added.
