Khadi India LogoShillong, April 12 (PTI) Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) Chairman Vinay Kumar Saxena has announced setting up of seven to eight Khadi institutes in Meghalaya.

“We will be setting up around 7 to 8 Khadi institutes this year in Meghalaya,” Saxena told.

He said that the cost of each institute was estimated to be Rs 9 lakh and its annual production would be worth around Rs 16 to Rs 17 lakh.

Besides, these institutes would provide employment to local people.

The KVIC chairman, who is on a two day visit to the state, also announced the launch of honey mission.

“A total of 5000 bee boxes will be given to the state this year. We will select and identify people and give employment to them through this activity,” he said.

Saxena, however, lamented that khadi activities were not up to the mark in the state.

Quoting past records, he said, “Much attention was not given to Khadi for the past 20 years despite its potential to generate employment among the people.”
