A bot is a software application that can run automated tasks on the Internet. They are being deployed by businesses to replace basic customer interactions.

Over the next few weeks, Gupshup will be launching templatised bots that can be deployed over different messaging platforms, Beerud Sheth, CEO at Gupshup, told. These bots will be so designed that it will be easy for the business to customise them as per their specific workflow.

“Most small businesses like restaurants, spas or small retailers have similar workflows,” Sheth said. “We will create a template which can be customized as per their needs and instead of creating their app, they can have their own messenger bot on Facebook.”

Several consumers are suffering from app fatigue and very few are committed enough to download apps for individual eateries or spas. For the user, a bot is an easy way to get in touch with the businesses for simple tasks like booking appointments or ordering meals.
