LawratoIndian Angel Network has invested an undisclosed amount in Lawrato.com, a portal that connects lawyers to potential customers, the latter said in a statement on November 16.

Alok Mittal, Co-Founder, Indian Angel Network, led the pre-series A round in the company, which will see V.P. Rajesh and Srikant Sastri from the group join the board of Lawrato.

The Delhi-based start-up said it will use the funds to scale up its platform, expand to other geographies and expand its services portfolio.

“With over 10 lakh lawyers and with no published data on lawyers’ performance track record, it can indeed be a very daunting task to find the right lawyer in India… Lawrato is very much aligned to our thoughts and has an extremely user friendly interface that helps law-seekers connect with the right lawyer and get basic legal advice,” said Mittal in a statement.

Users logging on to the portal can choose from an array of lawyers based on the latter’s biography, area of expertise, consultation fee and proximity. Lawrato claims it has 2,200 lawyer profiles across 200 cities in India.

It also gives access to information on commonplace legal matters like property disputes, family issues, criminal, civil, and consumer court matters and information on popular sections of the Indian Penal Code.

“While people know that they need help with an issue, they don’t know the right way to navigate our legal system, and who to consult and engage. That’s where Lawrato is an ideal option to go for… We wish to make the legal advisory a hassle free affair for every individual in the country,” said Rohan Mahajan, Co-Founder, Lawrato.

The company said it will expand to include everyday legal services like will drafting, property verification, promissory note and power of attorney on its platform.

Started in 2014 by Mahajan and Nikhil Sarup, Lawrato was launched with the idea of simplifying access to legal services and make it easier to find lawyers in India.
