The number of micro, small and medium enterprises in Rajasthan enrolled with the National Small Industries Corporation to participate in tenders floated by various government departments and PSUs is small even though the public procurement policy offers them opportunities to get bulk orders, a top government official said here on Tuesday.
“There are around 1,840 suppliers out of about 35,000 MSMEs in Rajasthan registered with the NAIC. At least 5,000 of them do supply to various departments in the state government and its entities. So there is scope for another 3,000 SMEs to enlist and take the benefit of the policy that mandates the government entities to procure 20% of their requirement from MSMEs,” said K K Sharma, zonal GM, NSIC.
Speaking at a MSME conclave organized by CII-Rajasthan, Sharma said for Central government tenders, the suppliers enrolled with NSIC are not required to deposit the 1% earnest money which is a practice in Rajasthan.
“We have also brought this to the notice of the state government and the industries department has already sent the recommendation to finance department for removing this EMD,” added Sharma.
Inaugurating the event, Industries Minister Gajendra Singh Khimsar said the state will be celebrating a MSME day in coming months. He said during Resurgent Rajasthan summit, many MoUs were signed for MSME projects. “We have simplified a lot of systems and processes to increase the ease of doing business so that maximum number MoUs get converted into real investments,” added Khimsar.
In order to address the concerns of MSMEs, Rajeeva Swarup, Principal Secretary in the MSME department mooted the idea of setting up facilitation centres in all the districts. The event was addressed by Yaduvendra Mathur, CMD of EXIM Bank of India, Shreekant Somany, Chairman of CII northern region, Jyoti Ghosh, MD, SBBJ, Suresh K Poddar, chairman, CII-Rajasthan, Sanjay Ghiya, convener of CII-Rajasthan panel on MSME, and Jyoti Gadia, MD of Resurgent India.
