A new rating scheme called ZED Maturity Assessment model is being worked by government for small and medium enterprises, official sources have said.

The scheme is aimed at aligning micro, small and medium enterprises with global standards by offering support through Quality Council of India.

MSME Secretary Anup Pujari chaired a meeting in this regard.

The framework is to be structured in a manner that it offered graded benchmark levels of an organization’s performance through a set of standard enabler and outcome parameters focusing on quality and environmental performances.

The purpose is to rate and handhold MSMEs to deliver top-quality products using clean technology. It would also help MSMEs to evolve and grow by providing them adequate training and funding to move up the value chain and produce quality products.

The ZED model will sensitize MSMEs to emphasis’ delivery of high quality products with zero defects. Enterprises will be encouraged to adopt clean technology into their processes to attain a sustainable growth trajectory.

There will be sector-specific assessment parameters for each industry such as food processing, textiles, leather, and auto parts.
