Odisha to sign pact with NIMSMEOdisha government will sign a pact with the premier institute National Institute of Micro , Small and Medium Enterprises , Hyderabad for undertaking research on issues relating to MSMEs.

NIMSME is a national level institute under the Ministry of MSME that works on various issues relating to MSME research studies and training to DICs( district industries centres).

” The state government has agreed for MoU between the Institute of Entrepreneurship Development-Odisha (IEDO) and NIMSME. Under the pact research activities will be taken for the MSMEs and the state will be benefited immensely”, said Samarendera Sahu, Director General of IEDO.

The IEDO will get a grant of Rs 2.5 crore for physical infrastructure, capacity building under the Assistance to Training Institution Scheme of Union Ministry of MSME. Apart from undertaking research activities, entrepreneurship development institute will also work for providing training and capacity building to MSMEs, especially for micro enterprises.

With the pact IEDO can run national and international training programmes with the strengthening of infrastructure, he added.

As many as 29866 MSMEs have gone into production in Odisha with an investment of Rs 2267.24 crore in 2014-15, as per the Odisha Economic Survey report for 2015-16.

Those MSMEs have gone on stream in the last financial have generated employment for 107011 persons. With 29866 MSMEs set up during the period under review, the total operational units in the state are now 160167. Cumulatively Rs 7906.25 crore have been invested in 0.16 million units creating employment opportunities for 845489 persons.

During last five years between 2010-11 and 2014-15, 53327 MSME units had gone into production with a total investment of Rs 4265.32 crore generating employment for 0.22 million people.

However, industrial sickness among MSMEs remains a major problem in the state.

The state government has set a target to generate 0.4 million new jobs by promoting 0.15 million enterprises in the MSME sector during 2015-19.
