A nip in the air and visible excitement on the faces marked the first day of the first ever “Start Up Conclave East’17”, a landmark affair, at Beldih Club on March 4.
The two-day conclave is being coordinated by students of the Entrepreneurship Cell, XLRI Jamshedpur, in association with Tata Steel, Confederation of Indian Industries (CII), Government of Jharkhand, in partnership with Entrepreneur Café, Big FM, Ivy Next, Start‐up Angel, Jamshedpur Tainment, Headstart, EIGHT (East India Growth Harbinger Trust), Rachna Communication and Entrepreneurship Cell‐IIT Kharagpur.
The event kick‐started with an enthusiastic crowd of budding entrepreneurs assembling at the Club in the afternoon. A B Lall, chairman CII Jharkhand State Council and Plant Head Tata Motors first addressed the gathering. He stressed on his belief in inclusive growth oriented business models.
He further mentioned that the Start up Conclave East will go a long way to provide the much needed impetus to the Startup ecosystem in the state.
This was followed by CA Saket Chourasia, Director, Global Startup Ecosystem, Entrepreneur Café & Founder Ivy Next, addressing about the initiatives taken by Entrepreneur café in promoting entrepreneurial environment in India.
TV Narendran, Chairman CII Eastern Region & Managing Director Tata Steel in his motivating speech talked about how apt the time is for entrepreneurship, backed by political pace and will. He mentioned that the Prime Minister’s vision of Startup India will boost industry competitiveness. He further highlighted that Adityapur is a thriving example of startups in the manufacturing space. He also emphasized that there is an important role of innovation in the startup ecosystem.
The inauguration program concluded with the speech of Saryu Rai, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Food Public Distribution & Consumer Affairs, Government of Jharkhand. The Minister stressed upon solving problems related to Production and manufacturing by creating and maintaining startup hubs through Startup conclaves like these. He mentioned that the support of the state government to facilitate and support startups will encourage and go a long way to show their commitment towards promoting innovation.
As Joslyn Fernandes, General Secretary, XLRI, pointed out, “Such events promulgate the spirit of entrepreneurship and innovation and breathe freshness in the campus’s academic atmosphere.”
After the inauguration, the event will shift to XLRI Campus, where the evening sessions by Amarnath Singh Chouhan, Founder of EIGHT and Director Company Name Triplepoint Engineering Private Limited, as well Arvind Kalia, National Marketing Mentor at Rajasthan Patrika will address the students on topics like Branding and customer acquisition.
The second day is expected to witness a footfall of more than 400 students, coming down to interact with titans like Umesh Shah, Director (IT dept), Government of Jharkhand, Nav Kishley, from Smile Foundation and Dr. R. Sambasivam, Head Analytics, Tata Steel.
