The introduction of Udyog Aadhar Memorandum (UAM) is expected to boost MSME activities in the country, besides training a series of changes in the industrial sector, according to PM Mathew, Director, Institute of Small Enterprises and Development (ISED).

Terming implementation of UAM as “progress-oriented”, he said a unique identification number for all MSMEs has been a constant demand by the Kochi-based ISED since 2001.

Referring to the Centre’s initiatives on start-ups, he suggested the need for a comprehensive “Business Birth Rate Strategy” to sustain it. The idea was proposed as a three-year programme (2016-19), in which a series of initiatives for boosting start-ups, and ensuring the health and growth of existing units, could be made. The strategy must be carried out on a campaign mode and under an institutional arrangement by the name India Start-up Mission, he added.

Mathew was speaking to reporters on the upcoming ‘India MSME Communication Programme’ (IMCP), and the subsequent release of ISED’s annual review India MSME Report 2015.

SS Mundra, Deputy Governor of RBI, will release the report on November 26 at the World Trade Centre in Mumbai.

The theme of this year’s ISED report is the scene relating to start-ups, growth, structural changes, entrepreneurship, finance, public policy and policy institutions, gender and several other related issues of concern.
