PM_Narendra_ModiThe government will kick-start  the “Start-Up India, Stand-Up India” initiative with Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiling the Start-up Action Plan on January 16.

This will be a government’s New Year gift to “young people” who want to set up new businesses or innovative projects, highlighting the government’s initiative and schemes.

In a bid to inculcate the entrepreneurship spirit of country’s youth accounting for 60 per cent of the 1.25 billion populations, the day-long event will be inaugurated by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will be chief guest.

More than 40 top global CEOs, founders of over 1500 top Start-ups, Venture Capitalists and Angel investors from Silicon Valley will participated in the event.

Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) will organize the event along with youth wings of FICCI, CII, Invest India and Start-up ecosystem players YourStory, NASSCOM, SheThePeople.tv and Kairos Society.

To promote the startup culture in the country, the event will be live telecaster in IITs, IIMs, NITs, IIITs and Central Universities and to youth groups in over 350 districts of India.

There will be a global workshop on startup entrepreneurship and will include panel discussions on

  • Unleashing Entrepreneurship and Innovation: What do Indian Startups Need to Grow and Prosper
  • Celebrating Women: Stories of Innovative Women Entrepreneurs
  • How digitization will change India’s future
  • Making Indian Healthcare Leapfrog
  • Financial inclusion is within reach

Jayant Sinha , Finance Minister will head the panel discussion on “Show Me the Money: How do we Capitalize Entrepreneurship?”There will be a unique Question and Answer (Q&A) session “Face-to-face with Policy makers” wherein Secretaries of Key Government Ministries , Departments,  representations from Securities Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) will answer questions on government’s role in creating conducive ecosystem for startups.

There will be interactive talks with global leaders such as Masayoshi Son (Founder and CEO, SoftBank), Travis Kalanick (Founder, Uber) and Adam Nuemann (Founder, WeWork).

Google will be offering $15,000 of equity funding for early stage startups at a session called ‘Launchpad Accelerator’ where startups can make live presentations about their business ideas. Softbank President and Chief Operating Officer Nikesh Arora would also guide the youth in raising funds.

To showcase unique and innovative work of Start-ups, a virtual exhibition will be organized.
