Rajasthan Government will tweak policies to facilitate the uplift and upgrade diamond, gems and jewellery industry, which are mostly in the SME sector and have huge potential for job creation.
Indicating this, Rajasthan MSME principal secretary Rajeeva Swarup said the diamond, gems and jewellery industry in the state too needed to adopt standards that are adopted in the large industries in the sector.
“In view of the growing potential of gems and jewellery and diamond industry in India and particularly so with reference to Rajasthan, its government has laid a double focus on the growth of this industry from the point of view of MSME sector, but also called upon their promoters to follow emerging standards globally for this industry so that its integration is facilitated to bring India on a map of global diamond and gems and jewellery industry”, he told a PHD chamber seminar.
PHD Chamber Vice President Anil Khaitan, said that gems and jewellery sector in India plays a significant role in the Indian economy, contributing around 6 to 7 % of the country’s GDP. It is extremely export oriented and labour intensive and contribute in a big way to India’s foreign exchange earnings.
