Amitabh KantThe only way to remove inequality is by bringing more opportunities for women, department of industrial policy and promotion (DIPP) Secretary Amitabh Kant said, as the government gears up to unveil India’s first ‘Start-up’ initiative on January 16,

In a Twitter chat on the subject of women entrepreneurs, which is a key part of Start-Up India, Kant said: “women entrepreneurs must become the key drivers of #StartupIndia! they r (are) more innovative & understand consumers.”

Inviting women to become entrepreneurs, he added that women have an edge over men in entrepreneurship, and “this edge matters to investors” too.

“Global reports show that start-ups, companies, which are headed by women have better financial performance. Given this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi too had a meeting with some of the global women CEOs in New York. Women have an edge over men as they not only control the majority share of household, they manage long-term relations, and understand customers needs better,” Amitabh Kant told HT.

Kant in more than an-hour long chat also said that the government will hold seminars in small cities to build confidence among st women in small towns and cities “through the district industries center” on a regular basis, which will add to the talent pool and promote their success stories.

The chat, which saw people from all walks of life seeking clarifications, also sought the government’s vision on failures that are synonymous to start ups.

“Failure is a necessary part of start ups, we need to learn to respect failures,” he replied.
