MSME Public Procurement Policy to get fillip.
Kalraj Mishra, Union Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises reviewed Public Procurement Policy by all the Central Government Departments and Central Public Sector Undertakings (CPSUs), after it was reviewed in the PMO. He was unhappy to note that the limit of 20% procurement from MSMEs and 4% from SC/ST entrepreneurs was not being adhered to by CPSUs.
He directed the Secretary (MSME) to identify the top 30-50 CPSUs and get a meeting organized at Ministers level itself so that the concerned CPSUs can be sensitised towards meeting the requirement of the Public Procurement Policy for MSMEs order dated 26th March 2012, which has already become binding from 1.4.2015 under the MSME Development Act, 2006.
During the review, it was noted by the Minister that the share of MSME procurement is less than 10% including mandatory 20% and that of SC/ST entrepreneurship share is lesser than 0.2% which according to him, was much lesser than expected from CPSUs.
